   My buddy once said this about his playing for baseball- Don't practice when you play, and don't play when you practice. Don't devolve into "practice mode" when you are in a game or a match. It's completely the wrong mental framing. Shifting into "fixing my shot" is exactly that: Practicing when you should be playing.

   I had a very frustrating mixed bag today. My driver is so hit and miss it's heart breaking. I'm off 19.0 currently, I believe for most of the round i played pretty well. I hit so many greens today, I had 4 birdie putts from 10 feet or less, sadly missed them all, putting is usually my saving grace and I roll them in regular from that distance but the greens were under maintenance, well spiked and sanded, difficult to read and judge. I played Woodham near Bishop Auckland, a par 73 in overall excellent condition, excluding the under maintenance tees and greens. I went round 14 of the holes in 64 shots and looking at a seasons best round and could have been maybe even 4 better with those missed very makeable putts on normal greens. But that damn driver and some dodgy decision making, trying shots I really shouldn't after those bad tee shots ruined the round. Instead I shot and 97, 33 shots for just 4 of the holes. A 10, a 9 and 2x 7's. The duff holes were a par 5, 2×4's and a par 3. 17 shots over for just 4 holes. Even if i bogied every one of the 4 holes instead I'm looking at a 5 under par 86 for the day. I'd love to fix my driver but at £50 a lesson it's out of the question having just lost my job. Finding the right coach is difficult and at £50 a shot to see how you get on together it's bloody expensive 😂. Any recommendations for a coach around the Sunderland/Durham area would be helpful. For when I'm back in work of course lol. I know if anyone answers they will say "don't use driver" but I think golf without the driver is like coffee without the milk, strawberries without the cream or Batman without Robin. I feel a bit of a failure not being consistent with driver and am beginning to think it's unfixable lol.

   My view is very different… If I pay for a golf game that means I can use the entire course… I make sure that I use the course, I slice, I hook to get the best value… I didn't pay to use the fairways only😂

   You have your swing down, so this works for you. How would a 20HC do this being that he dosen't have controll of his swing or shot shape.?

   I tried this and it has transformed my game. I’ve been stuck in a loop worrying about positions, now I just think what do I want to hit, fade draw and then just commit.
