The PGA TOUR returns to historic Colonial Country Club for the 80th edition of the Charles Schwab Challenge, with plenty on the line as players make one final push toward the next Signature Event and the upcoming U.S. Open. The field is loaded with stars and rising names, headlined by Ludvig Åberg, who arrives in Texas after a T4 finish at the PGA Championship and six top-10 finishes in his last seven starts. Defending champion Ben Griffin returns looking to become the first player since Ben Hogan in the 1950s to successfully defend at Colonial. Other notable names in the field include Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley and Gary Woodland, while Alex Smalley looks to continue his red-hot form after a runner-up finish at the PGA Championship. Max Homa is one of the golfers in the field chasing a spot in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in just three weeks’ time. Homa needs a victory in one of the next three PGA TOUR events to secure his place in the field. The race for the next Signature Event, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, also concludes this week. Players are battling for spots via the Aon Swing 5 and Aon Next 10 standings, with strong finishes at Colonial carrying major FedExCup implications. The iconic par-70 layout at Colonial Country Club continues to reward precision and shot-making following its Gil Hanse-led restoration, while the famed “Horrible Horseshoe” remains one of the toughest stretches on TOUR.
