Built and owned by Michael Jordan in Hobe Sound, Florida, it has fewer than 100 members, no tee times, and a guest list so tightly guarded that most golfers will never see it in person, let alone play it. Today, Performance Golf is inside the gates.
In this episode of Road to the ACC, Brixton Albert joins NFL Hall of Famer and Grove member Dwight Freeney for his first practice round of the season and a 9-hole match to see where his game really stands. Dwight is gearing up for the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, the biggest celebrity golf tournament in the world, and the goal this year is a top 20 finish.
To make it interesting, Brixton spots Dwight a three-point head start in a Stableford match at fifty dollars a point. What follows is a tight, hilarious, and genuinely competitive nine holes on a course almost no one will ever step foot on, with Dwight playing his home turf and Brixton trying to chip away at the lead.
In between shots, Dwight opens up about how he first picked up golf at Syracuse and was terrible at it, why he loves a game where there’s no one to blame but yourself, the “I expect to dominate” mindset that fueled his Hall of Fame career, and what it’s really like to play golf with Michael Jordan at the course MJ built. Brixton also breaks down some of the course management and short game strategy you can steal for your own rounds.
