In reading comments about the Ryder Cup in as much as they talk about the upcoming President’s Cup I don’t think people today realize that President George H.W. Bush initiated the President’s Cup And this was in the spirit of his Grandfather George Herbert Walker who was an early President of the U.S.G.A and the namesake of the Walker Cup, the premier ameuter team golf event in the world. The only reason the President's Cup exists is so the Americans can win a team event once in a while. Sort of like why France has so many civil wars. So they can win one once in a while.
