Video Description

Ryan Fitzpatrick spent 17 years in the NFL reading defenses, but standing over a golf ball he has nothing to fall back on. He misses big both ways, a snap hook one swing and a slice the next, with no fundamentals to reset to. Ahead of the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, he sat down with Martin Chuck to find out why.

Using the PG1 app, Martin runs the diagnostic and finds Ryan’s root flaw in a few swings. His trail arm whips the club inside, and on the way down the club gets steep and stuck with the face wide open. With that much speed, Ryan is strong enough to flash the face square at the very last second, which is exactly why the misses go both ways and too many foul balls leave the park.

What follows is a masterclass in simplification. Martin trades a head full of swing thoughts for one feel, hand to hand pressure that keeps the trail arm connected and the club on plane. Within a handful of swings Ryan is flushing his irons. Then they take it to the driver and the football drill that finally lets him square the face early instead of saving it at the bottom. This is part one of Ryan’s road to the ACC.
