After Round 1, Gotterup sits T6 at the 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The 2026 FedExCup Playoffs begin this week at TPC Southwind with the FedEx St. Jude Championship, as 69 of the top 70 players in the standings begin their pursuit of the season-ending title. With only the top 50 advancing to next week’s BMW Championship, the opening playoff event carries immediate significance for players fighting to keep their seasons alive. Rory McIlroy returns to action after missing last year’s event and makes his first start since The Open Championship. McIlroy enters the Playoffs outside the top 10 for the first time since 2021 but remains in position to challenge for a fourth FedExCup title. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler leads the standings despite having just one victory this season, with five runner-up finishes and a T2 at the 3M Open in his most recent start. Defending FedExCup champion Tommy Fleetwood returns at No. 9 in the standings, while Justin Rose looks to defend his FedEx St. Jude Championship title after winning last year’s event in a playoff. No player has successfully defended the tournament since it became part of the FedExCup Playoffs in 2007. Ryan Fox also returns for his first PGA TOUR start since winning The Open Championship, while stars including Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, Wyndham Clark and Chris Gotterup look to carry their strong 2026 seasons into the postseason. The battle for the top 50 adds another layer of drama, with players such as Max Homa, Sungjae Im, Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry and rookie Jackson Koivun all needing strong weeks to advance to the BMW Championship. Koivun, who only secured the 70th and final playoff spot after winning the 3M Open, faces the biggest climb, needing at least a T7 to have a chance of reaching the top 50. With 750 FedExCup points available and no cut during the Playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship sets the tone for the final push toward East Lake. Only 50 players will advance to the BMW Championship, making Memphis the first major pressure point of the 2026 postseason.
