So what’s a handicap? I’ve always found this weird, like people are calling themselves retarded. I’m a complete noob but just got handed my first clubs after enjoying going to the driving range.

I am a beginner golfer and every single person I meet, including my family tells me that the driver is the last one I should learn.

I’m currently playing with a nine iron, seven iron, five iron, the most important a sandwich, a powder and just two weeks ago I bought a hybrid

Best thing total beginners can do is find a decent teacher and get some lessons. Speeds up progress for most of us.

Most important club? Putter. Every other club you just hit it max, thats easy

Also, don’t walk onto or across the green wearing your golf bag like Coach Lockey did.

Min 11: Don't care what other golfers think about you

Play the crappy municipal courses. It’s way more relaxed, no one there is too serious about their game and they won’t mind if you suck. And it’s going to be way cheaper.

    the 1st tip is 100%
another tip is say and Iv always done
Play off whites all the time
religiously playing of yellows or reds makes a massive difference when you do become a member somewhere and comps are off whites

great tip on not needing the latest best stuff. best favorite club is my 1990s Tommy Armour 3W. i can go off the tee or the ground with it no issues every time.

I had no idea about the free relief! So how does that work, is it because stake trees aren't a 'natural' part of the course but correct me if I'm wrong but you dont get free relief from regular trees

Owning golf clubs is like Owning a boat. The best days are when you buy them and when you get rid of them

Id add hurry up with pace rather than slow because the group behind u doesn't want to wait 4 u and will start sending balls at u and just yell 4 , its what i do if ppl in front take too long .usually only a problem with beginners or large groupes but it turned my 18 holes into a 5 hr endeavor when it should be closer to 4 hrs

Beginner tip: STOP TRYING TO FULL SWING. Work on ball contact then extend around.

I almost always but my trolley behind me. That way it’s not in my vision when I swing. Placing your bag around the green in the direction of the next tee: You might think it doesn’t matter much, and “why would you be upset on a sunny day”. But it does matter. The main thing that annoys many people on the golf course, is other players waisting time. I absolutely hate it. If you want to spend 5 hours playing 18 holes, go for it. But let people play through. The players behind you might not have the some joy that you have, spending that much time on the course. Last week I played, we got stuck behind a 4-ball since hole 5. Waited on every tee, and on every second shot. On hole 9 we were finally let through. They were not happy about it, and said that it was blocked the rest of the way. On hole 12 we caught up to another 4-ball and stayed behind them the rest of the way. Finished playing, and the 4-ball that let us through, came in 35 minutes later.

Beginner tip: don't try to kill the ball! I remember in my beginning years in baseball and golf, I thought I had to swing as hard as I could to home run it or Happy Gilmore it all the time. You have little to no control doing this! Let the club do the work for you and just find the moderate, comfortable, and proper swing to let the club do the job.

    Hey Coach, Beginner here.

When I start getting more used to a basic 11(callaway set from Costco) club set up.. when should I start introducing a new club, and which one would be best to give a shot?
5 or 7 wood, or a lower iron?

I’ve started opening the face of my wedges and irons to manipulate my shots, punch and flops.

If I'm playing a par 3 on a busy course and there's nowhere to stand on anything other than divots, I'm going to hit from wherever I want (as long as it's not going to screw over the groundskeeper)

Whilst every golfer on the planet was a golfer once, some golfers started at 7 years old not 38, 48, 58, 68 ………There lies the difference.

Tee off from wherever you want, its not that big a deal. You dont need to use every club, you're talking to beginner's, if you nail your 7 iron the rest will follow.
Wouldn’t recommend any beginner watch this

only been playing a couple of years but something I'd say to a new golfer (or anyone in fact) is think about smart golf
example: 300 par 4 don't think you have to take driver if the fairway is quite tight, I hit my hybrid as I know I can keep it low and straight most of the time and it will leave me 100ish yards left in, where a driver could leave me 50 yards IF it finds the fairway
