If it's Arccos, then it's total, not carry. I thought the numbers were a little short, just as you said. I'm a 4hcp, and these 0-5 numbers are right around mine, but my swing speed is quite a bit slower than that of average players at my hcp. I guess there are more slow-swinging single cappers out there than I thought! I have interesting gapping in P-7 iron as well, but that's because I use all those clubs for so many different shots and distances. Arccos doesn't know what to make of it. It's like, "why did he use 7-iron from 110 yards in the middle of the fairway?" But Arccos doesn't know that it was raining, it was 45°F, and it was straight into a 30-mph wind.

I work with Garmin, what I notice is that the average distance takes pitch shots into account. So might be logical there is such a large gap between pitching wedge and 9i.

Is that carry or total distance? Age is a factor, I will soon be 72, play off 6, and I know how far I hit all my clubs. How does 'how far you hit it' relate to a handicap. All nonsense, I play with some guys a lot younger, bang the ball miles, yet have a double figure handicap. If they geared it back and stayed in play, their handicaps would come down, for a fact. I am a fairway finder, get tired of looking for balls, in the rough, in the trees, for these 'big hitters' Too much DISTANCE! DISTANCE! DISTANCE! on YouTube now, try promoting the short game, where it really counts.

Honestly- this data is about as useful as the average speed of cars by their paint colour on the A1. There is no context to this data and it will just fall into incredibly generalised information. AKA there is a correlation between the distance you hit the ball and your handicap.

Is handicap nd distance directly linked. Though there maybe some link, but accuracy is more a mark of handicap. I could hit 7 170, quite accurately for a while, but my handicap never below 18

Lower handicaps tend to use traditional blades with according lofts, higher handicaps “game improvement” with stronger lofts???

It's very simple, the higher handicappers think of the pw as a wedge because of the name, pitching wedge. They use it as they expect a "wedge" should be used, without taking a full swing. As a 20 handicap I am learning the pw should possibly not be considered a "wedge" if that makes any sense.

I think that most don't use there PW for full swing, but rather close to the green from either coming up short or feel its the best club for them to get it on the green….as for Arcos…it is amazing!!! got it for free with my new set of clubs, and yes its like 200 if you just go out and buy it, but damn is it dead on after you let it track your rounds, its dead on money….even when it tells me to say, use an 8 iron, when I think I should use a 9….and I stick it dead center of the green!! its really amazing….well worth the price, even if you have to buy the sensors…yall need to look into it!!

I play with a lot of high handicappers and they favour their pitching wedge for anything from 70-100 yards. Standard sets tend to stop at PW or maybe they have a SW. But a SW is 54 degrees, PW can be 44-48. So there's a big gap. So you can buy a 'set' of wedges, try and hammer a SW and hit it fat or learn to play 3/4 wedge shots.

    I hit my clubs 20 yards further than 0-5 handicappers I'm a 10 handicap. WTH 🤔

18 hcp here, with 150 yds with 6 irons (30 degree loft) – spot on for my hcp.

I didnt read for other answers but i would suggest that lower handicap players will have more short yardage clubs in their bags than the higher handicap players. That pw probably sees much higher usage

Arcoss doesn’t measure carry distance, so not sure how this video came about. Also, short game more often than not determines handicap, so whilst i like golf monthly, this vlog is a wrongun

Loft? How can you do this without mentioning loft

  15. @IverKnackerov

PW averages are lower because they are used more often for other shots than fully hit pitches 🤷‍♂️ simples

There definitely seems to be a need for a 10 iron.

Interesting, However, would have been helpful to split this out between men and women.

60, 3 hcp….starting at LW 110 and up by 10 yard increments from there to SW, GW, PW and up.

My range in my clubs is a +handicap index, but putting keeps me at 5 handicap for years. I hate practicing putting.. so I age 2 putts. Lots of pars few bogies and a couple birdies per round. At 46 years old.. I’m ok with it.

According to the numbers i got from data on my games , i hit it further than 0 to 5 handicap , yet iam far from a 0 to 5 handicap lol . Iam more in the 13 to 20 handicap. My data says i hit the 7 iron 167 avg. I use p770s

Incredible video that sticks to the truth and not wives tales of 200 + 7 irons.

I have played Hogan Channel Backs for many years …..and now 62 years old.

I have always been flexible so have a fairly good turn so I hit it fairly long.

I sometimes play with some young guys who try to hit their irons these outrageous distances…..but they loose their finesse 150 in because they are trying to hit a wedge over 150.

I learned over time how to take something off based on the distance and gripping down….so I can hit that 52 degree 120 yrds..to 90 yrds and watch the youngins try to hit their 56 degree sand wedge the same distance.

I am lucky to have learned in an era where you hit shots instead of regulating yourself to a certain distance with each club……so I can hit a 7 iron in a stromg face wind to a 120-140 yrd hole because it feels like the shot that is needed.

One of the greatest videos on real gold I have seen!!

Interesting! Thanks for this. I am prob above a 15 and have always estimated 135 for my 7i but as I make better contact nearer the sweet spot I am hitting it farther, 140+. I estimate at least 150 for the 6 and 160 for the 5, which seems to work. Farther for the 5 hybrid, 165. I will be studying my distances this year, I have never really checked them closely which is not smart!

So, what you're saying is that I should ignore the YouTube golfers who are looking at 216 to the pin and say, "Well, that's a 6 Iron"? Actually, my distances are more like the 1-5 handicap, but I am more of an 8 handicap. Oh, how I miss the old 3 iron, though…

    I wouldn't put any $$ into into this. I'm 61, 9.5ish hcp, and play Titleist T200 irons. 48°-125, pw -135+, 9i-145+, 8i – 160, 7i-170+, 6i-185, 5i-195 etc etc. It's all about ability and ball striking.

Doesn't matter how far you hit your irons compared to other people. You need to know your carry distance for your clubs. I'm almost 60 and hit my 8 iron consistently 140 yards and shot a 38 on 9 holes yesterday. My playing partner (43 years old) has no idea how far he hits his 8 iron (between 40 yards–fat and 180 yards–flushed) but he shot a 53. Play within yourself and know YOUR distances and be the best golfer you can be.

Well carry distances or total, I feel way better about how far I hit my irons. By these numbers, I should be a 10-15hcp. For context, I’ve been playing for about a year and am currently sitting at a 39-ish and I know my distances are accurate because of a couple of lessons. And these clubs are my cheap starter clubs that are way too short for me and like 35 years old. Seriously, I feel so much better 😅

Hey everyone, unfortunately all that Arccos Data is skewed. Unfortunately, what Arccos has done is place all clubs as if the entire population is hitting the same brand of Golf Clubs. If You really want a more accurate reading, and this can be done at the range, you have to hit at least 500 shots with every club in your bag to find your real distances. I have placed that to the test . . . I own Bridgestone Irons J36, Mizuno JPX 923, and my son has Titleist T 100 . . . I managed to hit all these clubs, and their distances vary significantly per Company. (All Clubs have Project X Still Shaft, my Hdcp is 8.8) ie.:7i – Bridgestone 157.5/ Mizuno – 167/ Titleist 169.5. The Average of all those distances comes to 164.5. Yds. Same 7i, different companies.

It's all nonsense really. Lofts vary so much on the same club, is it winter or summer, type of ball played, altitude you play at can make a big difference, age, etc…. it's all pointless stats.

The problem with arccos numbers are they are averaged across all shots. I have arccos and it shows I hit my 6 iron 203 and my 5 iron 205. Both are very different clubs and I use them for very different purposes. The 6 iron has a true carry distance of about 194, but ends up 203 because it is my main "punch" club. If I am in a tight situation and need to arse blast one no more than 30 feet off of the ground, I am going 6 iron. 5 iron does carry 205 but the raw data would give you the false impression I have a poor club gapping.

I'm a bit surprised actually. 36, 5"10 and 155lbs. Been playing for 9 months, handicap of 20. My irons go a lot further than these averages. My 7 iron goes on average (85% of my power, what I would consider a controlled full swing) around 165 to 170 yards. My irons are game improvement though: Titleist T350 series. Could that be it? I seem to be quite fast and maybe even slightly below average in terms of power and strenght. Might also have somehting to do with it.

Ok Im confused! When I strike the ball well i easily reach 140 or better with my 7iron same with 6 and 8 iron. But I'm a high handicapper. So how does this match up with my distances. Can you explain this please

    Reply
  33. @ilionatroya7129

I’m a beginner, and I hit a 30 degree 7 iron 185-190 yards at sea level and my 48 degree wedge 135-140. My handicap is about 20. But my putting is where I lose scores. Handicap should be separated into golfing and putting, haha! It’s hard to watch gear reviews since everything is based off your handicap, but small chips and putts are the thorn in the side.

Short irons I’d guess Arcoss cannot differentiate b/w a ‘half’ wedge & a full wedge…up to 15 yards regularly. Lots more dialed down shots with wedges is my guess & my game too – 6-10 hcap bracket.
At the other end, guessing plenty play a stronger 4 iron like a p790, then p770 5 – 7 & maybe MC type 8-W so you get some slightly different gaps.
