Have you ever heard Tiger Woods talk about his grip pressure like this before?

What about Padraig Harrington telling you to FLIP your hands through the ball?

There are many different ways to swing the golf club and many different ways to release it.

But in this video we’re talking about how many of the greats talk about squeezing the club tight and being very active with their hands through impact in order to get the club to release fast and at the right time.

As you promised, this answers all my questions about the wrists. Thanks for this clarification. It's not the wrists, its the forearms and wrist from what you are suggesting

This reminds me the flipping point Dan ALTON Golf is talking about on his YouTube channel

I’m trying to do two things at once, this video has so many nuggets I had to stop working and watch this video. It’s a 16 minute video you’d be more willing to pay for.

    Some of your best work

Sheer brilliance here, Chuck. You are unlocking the real secrets. I have been working at this and it's paying off. It's pretty counter-intuitive, but quieting down the body and making the hit and release happen earlier is making me more consistent. Keep up this whole process. It's fantastic. And by the way, it's way easier on the body of a late 50's guy.

Actually they didn't rotate over it appeared that way. The right hand/wrist moved to the left and the left wrist is totally cupped in most all good players. Scott, Hoosthuisen, and a list of others. Tiger more aggressively rolled the right forearm over the left but most others do not. That rotation is a byproduct of the right wrist extension ad left wrist collapsing. Jones right wrist moved to the left, literally. Mike Austin may the best example of hands working this way, not rolling over. Roll over is a byproduct not the cause.

Great video, as usual. Steve Pratt and others endorse this turning over of the clubface. Look at Jon Rahm. If he doesn't turn his right wrist over his left, that ball will be going into someone's kitchen.

Wow, I tried to match Tiger, and failed badly. I turned my club upside down, and was able to match the speed. It'll take some time (if ever) to get my speed to Tiger's. But I did make a great observation, that my back swing was much longer than Tiger's. After I shortened my back swing (like Tiger), I got much closer to Tiger's speed. Took a few videos of myself and also noticed that my shoulder turn is not as far (deep?) as Tiger's. With the huge extension (as far as possible), the correct shoulder turn, the back swing shortens itself. Still working … Great vid!

Truly a secret for most sunday golfers…..dan alton, steve pratt, eric corgono talked about it….they all have different names, folding point, releasing early, throwing the club, etc. No one can explain it well and that is probably the number 1 reason you dont see it much on youtube. Golf coaches probably has an easier time to talk about p6, p7, p8 then talking about release early or flip early. Ever wonder how all the LPGA have the effortless swings? This is it….release at the top, its like you nudging a toy car down a roller coaster track. Your center have to be very still to generate speed. And you have to point your right arm to the target, the elusive p8 that most sunday golfers cannot get too. Well done! Liked the video very much.

I want to reduce wrist cock but it’s very hard as I feel like I wouldn’t have any lever to use in the downswing. Any drills to practice?

thanks for this. Im 55yo and play off 4 and I dont have much wrist cock in either the backswing and downswing. I hit the ball a decent distance for my height (5'5") and have been wondering if I should try an incorporate more wrist hinge. Good to see many of the best ball strikers dont use much wrist hinge

Doesn't an early release result in "casting"?

You’re incorrect about what happens on the way down. Both Homa and Schauffle increase their wrist cock as they start down. Width going back, yes. But they narrow on the way down.

Almost loved this video. – Its all about angles, but none are defined!!!!
eg Is "Rotation" ……of the forearm? …..of the right or left forearm? …..or of the left arm (or hand) relative to the right?
Is the "wrist cock angle" …..the deviation from a straight line of the arm and club shaft? …the deviation from setup? ….or any of a multitude of other possibilities?
For an attempted technical video, it loses any ability to technically interpret. Without a clearly defined basis the graphs are pretty, but pretty useless.

Finally a YouTube coach telling the truth about hand/wrist action in the swing!! Get that release down and you can play great golf for a long time.

    Hi Chuck,

I think that there’s no doubt that rotation of the forearms occurs. The question or debate is about rate of closure. Those that have a more stable clubface are only more stable through impact but they obviously still rotate but after impact. I think that might be worth some discussion.

    Thanks, Alan

hi great instruction, isnt one of the main issues is that 'we' average mid to high handicap weekend golfers have been told to be 'slow and steady' since the year dot inspite of the fact that the pro's may be steady (balanced) but they are fooking fast !

Respectfully, it’s misleading to say tigers hands are moving insanely fast when his hands have been clocked at 20 to 24 mph. It’s not very fast. The speed comes from the release.

So overall, the greatest key is Clubhead speed and the most direct way that most humans can produce any decent clubhead speed is through the wrists and forearms.
    Correct?

I am agreeing with you, but isn't it really is a moot point as the actual amount of cocking that the left wrist can do, without cupping, is less than 45 degrees. It looks or feels to be more and you can move it nearly 90 degrees, but you can only use less than half that from set up to the top and back to impact. From your set up position you can see this if you cock your left wrist and see it is around 45 degrees from the ball, it is 90 degrees from your feet and that is what makes us think it can cock 90 degrees.
You do not talk much about the right wrist. Tell me if I am wrong, but it cups at the top and is the source of most of the power in the wrists. The left wrist's job is to not breakdown and to help stop a early flip.

Most of the players you show visually increase the wrist cock slightly in transition. Probably from the momentum of the club head still moving back as the hands start forward. It is a very small increase and is lost quickly. Some commentators suggest it is a source of lag, but is it irrelevant?

I improved my swing when I stopped concentrating on starting the downswing with my lower body. When I concentrated on turning feeling the weight of the club in my hands set the top of the backswing, I felt my body activated to release the the clubhead from the top and thru the ball to finish the swing.

Gyroscopic precession… helicopter pilots know this concept… the effect of an input in rotation actually occurs 90 degrees later in the direction of rotation. So… if you want the release of the club head to occur at the bottom of your swing, you must actually attempt to release it 90 degrees earlier during the down/forward swing!
