Meredith Dwyer didn’t just overcome losing her leg — she rewrote her entire story around it.

Most golfers never qualify for a USGA event, even fewer do it as an amputee, and even fewer still do it in their first year after surgery to remove their leg. Meredith Dwyer did all three.

After eight surgeries in eight years to treat a clubfoot she’d lived with since birth, Meredith made the hardest decision of her life: in October 2023, she chose to have her lower leg amputated.

What could have been the end of her athletic life became the beginning of a new one. A Google search for “adaptive golf” led to one tournament, then another, and soon a spot at the U.S. Adaptive Open.

But golf is only part of the story. Meredith’s bigger dream lives on the field, where she’s chasing a place at the Paralympics in shot put and discus. This is the story of an athlete who refuses to be defined by her circumstances — someone who succeeded not in spite of her obstacles, but precisely because of them.
