Uhh. It looks like your foot mat has your feet above the ball. Is it level with the floor, or am I looking at it wrong?
fun fun fun eureka it's might just work.
Variability and differential practice! Love it. I started hitting off of the sides, back and front slopes of the tee boxes at the local par 3 to throw myself some curveballs and it's improved my ball striking for sure. Trying to hit big slices and hooks, thinning or chunking on purpose has also helped. Have to make yourself uncomfortable and stop worrying about hitting a bad shot, even on the range!
Great video Mark. I play on a particularly hilly course so flat lies are very rare
Good points mark 👏 😊
Your insight to how the game is played and what you should do to get better is always top notch. Great video!
Mark, this is an excellent drill, and, yes, we amatuers think that we must practice on a level ground when, as you keenely stated, is not how we actually play on the course. Thanks for reminding us of this. Cheers.
At last I’ve been telling my playing partners for years you practice at the range perfectly flat lies and I don’t think I’ve ever had a perfectly flat lie on a course. So I’ve always practiced with foam squares under my mat at different places so slightly above my feet and below at different parts of the mat and going straight from slightly high point to the lowest point I still can thin the first shot as it’s lower and until I swing can’t adjust on first change.
Kind of like hitting off an ice covered pond!! Lol… Great tip…Cheers
Great video, and makes total sense. So maybe the best way to practice and get better is just to get out on the course and play more and get your basic skill set better, then go back to the range and get lessons to help you improve even more 😊👍
To use a crossfield saying…"its intresting" how quickly someone can turn into a salesman.
maybe the best tip I've seen in a very long time
Oh yes please. I love this kind of practice! Thanks Mark! Great as always.
Grew up on hills ball contact has never been a problem since
There is a big difference between being critical and just questioning someone. There is nothing wrong with questioning someone’s instruction. But if you plan to criticize someone in public, don’t. I think your ideas are quite sound, Mark. Nice lesson!
I noticed something very similar, I built a sim in my garage and at the start I found it kinda wonky to hit unless I had my golf shoes on, over the weeks of walking past and hitting a few shots with different footwear from barefoot to work boots which are way different in height it slowly became less of an issue, didnt even really think about it till watching this
Technique/mechanics vs skill/dynamics. It is good to be reminded I spend an imbalanced amount of time on the former. Cheers, Mark.
This is incredible advice. Going to start doing this right away!
Hi mark hope you’ll answer my question here.
I buy into your ideas on lag and ulnar flexion happening earlier and all of those outdated lag ideas that are wrong!
However I’m still wondering – when you look at videoes of tommy Fleetwood mcilroy and the like you often see them still showing a 90 degree angle between forearm and club when their hands are around their upper thigh.
Coaches continually show me videos of that angle comparing it with my swing where my club isnt holding that angle when my hands are around upper thigh.
They use videos like that to show me where I should in my swing.
So my question is – why does the pros swing look like that from the front on view when my swing doesn’t look like that.
Is that also due to the fact that their club head may be more behind their hands (thinking in down the line view)
And therefore merely a sign that my swing may be steeper than theirs?
Hope my question makes sense. I basically want to know if my coach is actually right in saying that I’m letting go of angles and need to hold on more when comparing my swing to a pros.
Mark I love your videos mate. Thank you for bringing skill and good communication to the game of golf. Many of your tips have really helped to lower my score consistently. Love your work mate.
This is an incredible video Mark.I really do think this is a great video exposing the difference between technique and skill. Skill is ultimately tested on the golf course. I've seen some really wild swing techniques come in under par consistently because they mostly train their skill and are able to repeat what they have
🤯yet again, Mark. Your insights and tips, understanding of the pitfalls we all stumble into as casual players never ceases to open my eyes. Not once did I ever think of practising dynamically adapting to a situation and so simply as you have shown. Please keep them coming. I may never be a great player but schooling like this will certainly stop me from being a neglectful player.
Played a course in Iowa and hit 12 fairways. However there wasn't a flat lie on the course. I hit one green.
Great message Mark.
Exactly the same problem I am having. Thanks for breaking it down to make it more understandable.
I have a question. Why do we hit better shots on uphill lies?
