For me it would have to 8 iron length to have a chance of working

Still watching, but you mentioned shaft flex. I would think you are x flex 120g perhaps, but bryson's la gear are probably 130g and xxflex. The lob wedge distance you are getting is because there is no help because you aren't swinging fast enough. I watched it all now and the 5 iron is extreme, a not so good strike sees you get your normal 5 iron distance, get it better and 223 mad. There is a pro on YouTube who has the same irons but the combo length. I think his 3 iron is 13 degrees, it's a rocket ship. Josh Oddy his name is

Loft and swing speed ratio must be golden. Low swings speeds require higher lofts, and higher swing speeds require lower lofts. They also require stiffer shafts to reign in the draw. The same principles used with fitting for a driver should be no different to how you fit an iron. Swing speed and shot shape only. And Bryson’s clubs are designed for super fast and high drawers of the ball only. His whole swing is built on trying to hit the fattest duck hooks possible, then reigning them in with super stiff shafts, the open convex face and baseball bat grips.

Great to see an in depth review of such unique clubs ! Joe did you use these in the Alliance event at Saunton to win ?

The jacked loft are based off spin. He probably spins that 8 Iron at 8k. You are actually hitting it at the correct spin rate for a 6 iron.

My 5 iron only goes 170 yards carry, be nice to pop a 5 iron 200 yards like you Joe! Nice bit of content here mate. Cheers

A trip to JCB again later in the year, see if you can hit alongside Bryson

The curved face is super interesting to me as i thought this would be soemthing that average golfers (me 12 handicap) would need to help
Not a absolutel flusher like Bryson

Isn’t it about time numbers disappeared from irons, just go lofts, like wedges?
Another great video. Can’t wait to see them on the course.

They look so small from heel to toe. I tried the jumbomax grips a few years ago, very expensive and didn't really get on with them. No one else other than Bryson plays one length or the thick grips – if it worked all pros would be doing it. He really has a unique set up and swing to make it all work. Good review Joe.

Hi Joe, be interested to know what it felt like going back to your own clubs after swinging these.

Looking forward to seeing you play a round with them

Hey Joe the pro. Love your work. Is the difference clubhead speeds between the 60 & 5iron down to the different weights of the clubs?

Did bryson know about this, I'm so surprised anyone gets to touch his back up set, especially with these being so rare

his 8 iron is a 6 iron. 6 iron loft and length. he just put numbers on it for shits and giggles.

    This is very interesting.
My 48-degree wedge with 75R graphite shaft goes 5 or 6 yards shorter than my 48-degree with a 128R steel shaft. Flight with the graphite is higher, so I am guessing that one spins more. No numbers to back this up at this point, just a hunch.

How is this vid only in 720p? It's 2025… Love the idea though

Joe I would like to see you play these iron heads in shafts, grips and different lengths like you would normally use to see how the roll and budge iron faces work for you. Brysons one plane swing, very much like Moe Norman, make these irons with all their out of normal features work for him. Good luck using them in a tournament that seems a tough task, thanks as always!

I don't trust track man. I really don't. I'm sorry. I'm just gonna say it. I don't trust it. I've seen so many reviews of so many different clubs on track man and then they go out onto the course and it's completely different! My advice would be don't get sucked in buy a hybrid

Flattering to the ego??? It's not an 8 iron. its a 6 iron. Why not put a P on the bottom and tell everyone you are hitting a pitching wedge 180 yards. This thinking defies logic. Its not a frigging 8 iron. Fucking stupid

The one thing I know from BD videos but his swing is his club head speed, so that needs to be imported into the formula.

  21. @brianmurray4199

His clubs are set up for spin rates and hitting a certain window. So I think Joe the pro needs to hit the gym more😂

Fun vid. I've got a set of their Combo Length irons, would be interested in something like this or their newly shown irons in 4/5/6i. Something a little more forgiving for all my poor strikes, and for 100mph+ speed with those clubs I'd be curious if the bulge is helpful at all.

  23. @robertbogdan7058

How long before bulge and roll are incorporated into mainstream irons? I'm not a golfing engineer but I can't see a downside (price?). If one were to play a set of hybrids down to, say, a 9 iron or PW, they'd all have bulge and roll so I can't see a rule infraction simply because they're irons and not metal woods. And of course if Bryon is using them, obviously they're conforming.

I've been playing the Cobra one-length irons for a while now. I will never go back to variable-length irons. The "shorter" clubs (8, 9, Pw, Gw, Sw) are easier to hit than ever before.

The club number is not relevant. How he spaces the intervals is the key. A difficult job for the caddy, to verify club selections for the shot distance.

Whoaaaa crazy stuff that …this roll bulge in his irons I think will become the norm in a few years

  27. @nickkay3829

Joe, would be good to see you get a fitting into the Avodas to see how that compares to your current setup

  28. @Rexij

same shaft lenght, same swing weight but you swing the 5 iron 25mph faster than the lob wedge

  29. @nedgermany

The heads are lighter so they don’t go as far according to Drew Cooper. Less mass = less distance to counter the effect of the length

  30. @BurnsRubber

Your launch monitor is questionable. You’re not launching that 17* 5i at 19*.

    Reply
  31. @Seve007

This is precisely why people get it wrong when they claim the distance he hits it is down the the strong lofts. Yes they go slightly farther but you’re still 40+ yards down on his yardages

When you have the speed of players like DeChamBeau, the reason they deloft them is to set proper gapping distances and ball flight height. If they didn't the ball would ballon way up in the air and spin too much. I would be willing to bet that your peck height is a good bit lower than his with the same club. Therefore, less stopping power. His stock Lob 60* wedge is 110-yards, and he works off 15-yard gaps, that's how the lofts turn out the way they are. All that matters regardless of loft is does the PW launch and descent at proper PW angle, does the 8I launch and descent at proper 8I angle etc. BTW in the late 80's a stock PW was 50* just for one type of reference.
