Everybody Says “Turn Your Hips to Start the Downswing” But It Seriously Kills Your Driver

Video Description

This is why many golfers slice and struggle to hit farther, straighter drives. If you start down too early and have that idea of your hips starting down, it will seriously kill your golf swing! This is an easy 5 step process to follow that will allow your arms to drop, combine power, rotate your hips correctly to allow you to gain maximum distance with driver! The hips do not start the downswing!

Starting your downswing with hip turn brings in many problems that cause higher scores. It can mean you have a greater chance of swinging over the top when you, miss out on using the hips as a power source to hit the ball much farther. Slowing your hips down during the golf swing helps massively, but it goes against everything you hear in the golf swing, but it’s changes everything. This golf tip shows you how to use your hips in the correct sequence to drive farther and straighter.

I can’t wait for you to SLOW your hips and start seeing the golf ball fly further. I had this lesson today with Malcom! In fact I showed him this exact video!

Alex another absolute gold nugget of a drill! I love the way you stage the drill out. Looking forward to working on this drill. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Honestly this question is not meant to complicate things…On the takeaway, most golfers shift their weight towards the trail foot, the spine moves further behind the ball. Right before the club reaches the top of the backswing, most golfers shift their weight towards the lead foot, spine moves towards the starting position. Is that when you start "dropping" the club? I guess I'm asking, what's your trigger to drop the club? What's the feel?

Struggling with compression at impact with my irons. Years ago working with an impact bag helped, but no one I’ve taken lessons from in the past 2 years have even tried it. Any ways to work on shaft lean and compression at impact?

Brilliant, it makes it so much easier to watch what you need to do to make a perfect swing. Thanks for another great video! 😊

Tried this swing today. It made me realize I have been pushing my hips through far too early, hence my continuous slice [thought it was my grip causing that]. It will take a bit of getting used to but will be out again after dinner tonight & know I can master it BUT it's not as easy as you make it look Alex

I’ve heard that referred to as the “2 o’clock” drill. Basically feel like you face 2 o’clock while you swing and let it pull you through.

Another great video and very well explained. Reminds me of my lesson last week. It is all starting to make sense and my body and arms are now getting more use to the new moves. Keep the videos coming I look forward to viewing them each day!

Can't wait to try this. I know rushing the downswing is my biggest problem, no matter how I try to wait.

Won’t the feeling trying to push the toe forward just produce a flicky wrist?

Love the net, trouble is with my push slice I’d probably miss it. Never been able to drop club.

Except.. on the slow mo, his hips rotate before or with his arms. It looked great, don't get me wrong, but not as per the exercise, but hey exercises are like that, as long as they make you hit well, that's fine.

Bingo!! Stage 2 was a light bulb going on. I have very broad shoulders and long arms and struggle with coming over the top. I have always been taught arms, shoulders, hips on the back swing and hips, shoulders, arms on the down swing. Holding my arms back left me coming over the top because my shoulders had already started rotating. Took your tip to the range and wow. This tip put my arms in a very powerful position for the rest of my swing. The result was straighter, way longer, and great ball compression. Thank you.

Hopefully you will consider making a video on stopping heel strikes. This is my biggest issue along with slicing if you have already done a video covering this please let me know thanks and keep up the great work

OK, Alex. Here is what I want to see… I would like you to record your swing in full speed, half speed and super slow speed (from both angles – using two cameras). For reference, look at some of the videos that "Mike's 3D Life" puts out there. But your swing is so sweet, it would be great for us to reference and emulate it. Maybe add some reference lines like swing plane, etc. And if you really want to make the best of it, record your Driver, 3-Wood, 4-Iron, 7-Iron, 9-Iron, and Wedge. Bonus Tip. Post each video separately over time so you can easily keep up with YouTube's content creation quota 🙂

If I have to choose from all golf teaching videos I’ve seen so far. This one is the best and probably the one that in fact changed and corrected my swing. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Hi Alex these drills may be just what I need , for some reason I have been hitting from the top with my irons resulting in lack of distance and chuncking over the top swing I feel like a load of tension builds up in my arms and shoulders any additional advice ?many thanks for your video's I enjoy watching the content

I just found you online and love this lesson. I took it to the golf course today after a half hour of practice. When I get the sequence correct I hit beautiful iron shots. Driver not so good, but remember I only practiced with this for 30 minutes. My mistakes were solid contact blocks. I understand what I need to work on.

Can you recommend 2 or 3 other videos that pair well this one? Thanks. Just subscribed

Step 2= transformational with irons. Watched this video last night, played today. Zero chance to practice on the range. Just concentrated on dropping the arms before turning. Wow. Every full swing iron shot was crisp and accurate. 14 such shots, no thins, no fats, only 2 weren't on line with the green and those were within 5 yds of the fringe. Can't wait to take this to the range for all steps and add the driver into the mix. Great instruction, Alex
