Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!
I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.
The original Quinta Do Lago i played when it was only open a few years . what a golf course and the condition was amazing. I had the worst yip on the chip for about 2 years. Right hand jab and could not stop it. I am working my way out of it now. It is a lot better.. I will give this a go tomorrow.
Your recommendation of a 50/50 weight distribution at set up for a chip shot sounds doable. I have been using a 60/40 distribution which seems to be working! Your suggestion for the chip shot, sounds like it could also work in the short pitch shot with the movement to the left side as you are recommending.
Lovely matty ❤
I do same with my full swing irons. Start 50/50, lightly start to transnfer weight onto lead foot thru backswing and my move back to the ball begins with noticable shift, left hip moving back and weight going into left thigh, left knee and down into impact. Has cured 30 years of low point behind the ball, fats and thins at the worst moments. Plus I've gained 15 yards on all clubs.
Do like Crossfield and GET A Chipper Club. That Smartsole C has been genius for me.
When we gettin' more VLOGs Coach, where's the Muppet tour?
Will have to give this a try.
The Victor Hov approach that sorted him out
Paddy Harrington says we should never purposely use the bounce. We want to avoid using the bounce when chipping. It's just designed to save us. What's your opinion on that?
Where’s the weak grip James taught you!
This is exactly what I've been working on lately. 50/50 works best for me. I make sure to turn through the shot & end up at about 80/20.
How far should I stand from the ball!! I've been shaking my chipshot! Thank you!!
I will try that tomorrow when I play my first round this year.

Thanks Coach – I think that’s exactly my issue. I’ll give it a try!
Worked a treat for Hovland this move – mr mayo wink😉
I like this… Just makes a lot of sense to me. I’ve tried this a bit and I just like the feeling of being more balanced at the start and then intentionally letting that weight come with the momentum of the club head. Great stuff Coach! Another great one!!!
Great stuff Coach. Another tip that can be useful to keep weight over ball or at least forward
..is to raise right ankle of the ground. Initially couple of inches, then reduce until just above the ground. Once comfortable and crisp strike can go back to on ground. You're welcome! 4:40
Kinda feel 60/40 .
Top-dollar-tips 😉👍
Try chipping and short pitching one handed. Right handed for right handed player. Really get to feel the weight of the club head and momentum through the shot so little risk of duffing. Just takes a bit of practice.. ps don’t play bunker shots one handed as these need speed.
New here after no golf in 3 years … Where dit all the fun Course vlogs go with you, Mark, Rory, and Dan
Most simple or simplest, which?
Or you could watch Dan Grieves who really knows what he's talking about.
Do as coach shows and practice it 2-3 hours a week, then your handicap will go down fast, short game is key to a better game. If you struggle to keep weight on left foot through impact, practice with all weight on left foot, push right foot back a few inches and put right foot on the toes – start swinging, it gives the right feeling and correct use of bounce…..also helps turning hips in the left side…..and balance 🙂
It depence on the lie of the bal
You seem to keep the lead elbow passive and use your trail arm to control the shot?
