This is a shame. She has been having some problems recently; but she still seemed to have a lot of good golf in her. A reduced schedule may be in order; but she should keep playing. Fans will miss her if she quits.
I'm fit and no way I want to walk 18 holes 4-5 days in a row plus showing up 2 hours early and staying an hour or two after working on stuff.
If I walk 18 3 days in a row I'm dead for a week.
retiring at 29…. I'm not really into her swing, but it just works, so who cares.
Take a break, don't quit. This is a bad plan coming from an emotional experience. Don't magnify a problem with a bad decision lexi.
Leave your options open. 😊
Sad to hear, especially because of the reasons. I wonder if the death of Grayson Murray was the straw that broke the camel's back? 😢
Good on her. Shes rich. Burned out. Move on to new avenues. Im sure she’ll still be involve w golf some ways
She has a lot in common with Michelle Wie. Pressure to go pro early. Tons of talent but didn't produce to expectation. With mental health being an issue with many women athletes, it is a good decision. As much as I'd like to see her play, as she was easy on the eyes, she wasn't competitive with the Asian girls that are on tour today.
Is it me or did they announce Lydia Ko as Alexa Pano?
Golf, not being a team sport, is lonely in the mind and physically taxing. Agreed, most don't know, I can't imagine how hard that woudl be to keep the dream alive.
She was the ONLY reason I tuned into LPGA golf. Adios!
What is sad is the Lexi made a point of making the announcement during the US Open before she missed her 5th. cut out of 7 starts this year. What is even sadder is that the majority of the golf world really isn't affected or actually cares whether she continues to play or not. Given her play over the last two years she is not even considered a factor or threat by any of the better players. Point is in two years, except for attempts to leverage off her early career, she will be forgotten and most likely primarily remembered as a player who blew a 5 stroke lead in the US Open because she choked.
She made the announcement because similar to 2023 she is in jeopardy of loosing her card by way of missing 5 cuts in 7 starts this year. And consistent with her constant branding, self promotion and branding she probably hoping the announcement might result in a sympathy selection for the Solhiem Cup team which of course she hasn't earned. Even last year the US captain provided her with easy match ups, placing her against the lowest ranked (meaning worst) player on the European team, which she needed 17 holes to beat.
She’ll come back, just need a break 🤷♂️
Hopefully Miss Lexi will fall in live with a real good man and has a beautiful family with her children surrounding her.
I couldn't possibly care less about Lexi Thompson. However, that reporter has my attention.
I personally saw her miss a 18 inch putt to win to win the US Open and it was just heartbreaking and gut-wrenching to watch
