Hi Mark, thanks for the comprehensive review. Could you please clarify something regarding the swing speed without a ball. At one point you said the swing speed jumped around a bit but then in other bits of the video you say that the swing speed is calculated partly via ball speed? Does the device 100% measure swing speed without a ball? And if it does, is it consistent or does it jump around? Thanks for your help.
Had mine for 4 months, and used it everyday it’s not rained. Love it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for more data to work with
Which is best now? What about mevo plus these measures angle of attack metrics? Pr the R10 that infers club path metrics…. Can you compare all of these, please? Which of these are best for hitting into a net? Cheers!
Btw, I’m in Devon. How can i book a lesson with you?
Mark, is there a portable device you could recommend for people like me with questionable distance vision? I find it difficult to play alone because I am very capable of losing balls in plain sight. I can usually have some idea based on feel, but this is an outdoor game and feel only goes so far if I lose sight of the ball immediately on impact.
It's an impressive price until you realize that it has a high subscription cost that if you don't pay every year it doesn't work. Remember when buying an item meant you owned the item? Now you buy an item and have to pay $200 a year to keep item working…. No thanks.
Any Integration with other systems – say Arccos?
I've owned the MLM2 Pro since last April. (ordered the day it was released) I've used it consistently 2-3 times a week for the last year. I Have a hitting "bay" set up in my garage with a retractable net and an ipad mount on the wall in front of me so I hit and look up to see the results. The unit also uses the ipad camera so I get down the line and face on cameras. I consider myself very experienced with it. Here's my overall feedback on the unit:
Mark nails it with the build quality. It's a well put together piece of kit. It is very accurate. (I take lessons at a place with GC4 monitors and it's ever bit as accurate) There are two big issues with it that make me pause on recommending it to others who are going to use it a lot:
1. The Balls
If you're using this primarily indoors and want spin data, you have to use their proprietary balls. There's no way around that. They aren't cheap and they definitely aren't durable. hitting 75-100 shots in a session 2-3 times a week into a net, I go through a ball every 4-5 weeks. The finish (dots) gets worn off and the unit will start throwing wonky numbers because it can't identify the pattern anymore. The unit works amazingly well with a fresh ball, but you should be prepared to use a fresh ball after 1,000 shots or so. Perhaps they would last longer hitting into a screen instead of a net?
2. The Software
Rapsodo isn't a big company so I imagine their software team isn't that large. It shows. They seem to release an updated firmware and/or app every month or so, but the overall improvements to the software are pretty limited. Connecting the unit to whatever device you're using can be a challenge at times. I'd say it works more times than not, but I can go weeks with flawless connectivity and then randomly one day it'll struggle to connect.
If you hit a lot of balls in one session like I do, there seems to be a memory leak after 75 shots or so. It's like it's storing all the previous shots and after a while just doesn't have the memory to keep up with the next shot. So, you'll hit a shot. it'll take 5-10 seconds for it to display the results and even then the display of the ball flight might stall and stutter. At that point you have to shut everything down and reconnect everything. It's not a huge deal, but it goes to show the lack of quality control in their software.
There are also features that they should be able to do, which would be super helpful, but for whatever reason have not. Example: They have a great "Practice" mode. you hit a shot and your device will replay the camera shot of your swing. It'll even sync up the face on camera if you have that enabled. Awesome! Right! BUT, the replay is at full speed and plays once. you can go to the device and select to reply it, and it will, but only at full speed. you can't slow it down. you can't scrub through it. you can't even pause it. So what's the point? What's frustrating is you can exit practice mode, go to the main menu, select your previous practice session, select the shot, select the replay mode and it'll replay the synced up video and allow you to pause and scrub. (it's multiple minutes to go through the process ) It's so close to being great, but just falls short. Given the slow pace of real feature additions, I don't have a lot of hope that the quality of life improvement will come.
So would I recommend the MLM2 Pro? Depends on what you want out of it. It's a really great piece of hardware from a small company that seems to be lacking the software team to take advantage of what the hardware team has created.
I've had mine about a year and love it. Intermittent misreads, but all in all fantastic device. Very accurate, great interface, I personally do enjoy the sim software. Some people complain about it, but I think it's very fun and graphics good enough.
I cant find Angle of Attack, anyone know?
This is NOT the best training aid for golf. It is very good but it does not have Angle of Attack. Rapsodo inform me its coming end of 2024! How can 'YouTube experts' make videos on Angle of Attack being important and then sing the praises of a device that doesn't do it?
I’ve had one for a while and it does well with irons and wedges, but my Driver and fairway woods it seems to under estimate my launch and ball flight. It’s telling my driver ball flight is only 40-45 feet and I’m seeing easily 90-100 feet in actual ball flight
Gaining on course yardage data would improve my game dramatically.
Can I see total averages, yardage and dispersion, by club from all sessions? Can you filter by year and by season? 38° winter vs 90° summer is very different.
Hi Mark, you can put your phone on the tripod as that's what the cut outs are for .
Could you attach this to the front of your buggy and just park your buggy behind every shot? Or is setup required for different locations?
how does it connect to a projector ?? if i have a bluetooth or wifi projector?
Legend has it Phil Mickelson would practice in the rain and lightning if it was ugly out 😈
Takomo I want your irons. Takomo I want your clubs.
Sounds like the chorus to a song!
Subscription is $200/year for MLM2 Pro not $99 as stated in video.
FYI- the year 2 subscription you show in the video is for the MLM. The MLM2Pro is roughly double £165
Does it have E6 capabilities?
Hi Mark, thank you for making this video, very informative. Please can you let me know if you would recommend this over the Garmin R10, considering all of the additional subscription costs?
I have the previous version of the Rapsodo launch monitor (MLM). The little red device that you set your iPad or phone on. I loved it and use it all the time. A few weeks ago it stopped working. It stopped reading the shots. The light should go from blue back to green after a shot and instead it was staying blue. It was stuck on blue and wouldn't read any new shots. I contacted support and they said there was a bug and they were working on fixing it. As of today 6/13/24, there's still no fix. The device is unusable. Will I have the same problem with the new MLM2Pro? I'm considering buying it but concerned I'll have the same problem with a software bug. Any feedback? Thanks!
I’m sure you save more then $200 a year practicing or playing at home that I will make it worth the subscription
Will make it worth it
The disconnects between the app and the monitor device are sooooo frustrating. Happens in both iOS and Android. Rapsodo is doing nothing to address the issues. It’s. Even going on for at least 5 months through multiple firmware and app versions.
Pretty sure there is a spot on the base of the device to put your phone or iPad on
Hi Mark, the subscription is $199 per year. You added the subscription from the original MLM (which is $99) in your video
