Video Description
Struggling with inconsistent iron shots — one pure, the next off the toe or heavy? You’re not alone. Most golfers overlook one of the most important parts of the swing: the takeaway.
In this live lesson with Victor, we made two simple changes:
✅ A slightly wider stance
✅ A smoother, more connected takeaway
The result? Instantly more solid, center-face strikes and way more predictability.
If you’ve been fighting inconsistency, this video will show you why the first 12 inches of your backswing can make or break your ball striking — and how a simple fix can completely transform your game.

Andy, I've been trying to correct this exact problem. Thanks.
Hope you enjoyed the video. You are never as far away as you think from hitting consistent shots! What questions do you have about your game? Let us know in the comments below.👇
This is going to stick in my head now ‘parallel to the ground parallel to the target line’
Great video!
I had the opposite problem. I was always behind the plane and had horrible hooks and pulls
Same problem with my feet – always the weight in the toes.
I am glad that I could fix it. Nearly no more penalty strokes in my rounds.
Last weekend I broke 90 for the first time and shoot a 83.
I recognized in the video that he has quite a lot wrist movement in the beginning of the backswing – wouldn't it be better to have there also more a one peace Takeaway? Looks like a two step movement to me.
Love MaMG content especially Andy’s instructional videos. Clear and concise. Would love to see some takeaway vids (1st part of the golf swing) as I struggle a bit like Victor in terms of consistency and I feel it’s because my takeaway gets too “armsy” at times.
What have you done with Piers? 😂
Like the parallel to target line. That’s interesting
On setup do you generally recommend outside of feet outside or even with shoulders? Love the parallel to to floor parallel to target line. Thank you
Great lesson. I think it would help if his feet were flared out a few degrees, it looks uncomfortable. Cheers
Thanks again for the lesson gentlemen! Swing has been way more fluid and consistent since the lesson.
Cheers!!
I think I have this exact problem! Thank you!
Thanks Andy – another great clear instruction ! 😀
Darn. That's my swing plane too, and tempo as well! super helpful.
Great lesson……my question is after taking my grip….should my right forearm look like its above my left forearm when I look down…..kind of like it does when you try a split hand drill?
I always learn a lot when I watch Piers and Andy's videos.
Is it weird if we've got this playing out loud on a laptop at the range?
This was perfect timing for me 👍🏼. Though ive heard many times about parallel/parallel from just about every youtuber (and i watch to many youtuber lessons🤷🏼♂️)maybe one other guy gave as detailed and impressed it was “somewhat important “… so ive not focused on it nearly enough .hopefully filling in for a league guy tomorrow i will✌️
Excellent video Andy, my 10 years old son takes his hands outside sometimes which causes him to thrust forward and push it right. I watched the video with him and his take away now is spot on, can’t wait to see him try this on course. Great thing was that although he’s only 10 you have explained this really clearly as he fully understood the points you were making.
