Video Description

Things SCRATCH Golfers Do But You Don’t. Imagine stepping onto the golf course as a 10 handicap and finishing with a scratch round of golf. In this video, Coach Lockey, Rory, and I break down the most common mistakes 10 index golfers make, and show you exactly what a scratch golfer would do instead.

You’ll see real on-course examples of decision-making, course management, shot selection, and recovery play. Learn how to:

– Avoid costly penalty shots
– Improve your short game and putting
– Manage course strategy like a scratch golfer
– Turn “bad shots” into smart misses
– Save strokes with better club selection

If you’ve ever wondered how to go from a 10 index to playing level par, this video is packed with practical tips and real-life lessons you can use right away.

👉 What’s your handicap right now, and where do you want it to be? Drop your answer in the comments!

I have some questions for you:

    – What is your golf handicap / index?
    – Do you have a target in mind in terms of what you would like to play off?
    – What is your biggest weakness / what is stopping you being a better golfer?

As you'll see in this experiment of what Rory / Ray / Raymondo needs to do to play better golf, mitigating the mistakes he makes by simply managing his game with more awareness is one of his best routes to improvement. Golf strategy tips allow you to play like a scratch golfer without really evening needing to change your swing, because often how to play better golf lies more in the art of scoring than it does in perfecting your golf swing.

Of course, hitting straighter drives and short game lessons will help in the long run too, but when it comes to how to save strokes in golf, more situational awareness and course management can help massively, often with immediate effect.

Mark I am a 2.8 HDCP hoping to lower it as close to scratch as possible. A question for you: Does Rory have enough speed to hit a 4 or 2 iron (unless it is solely a driving iron) and land it on a green and stop it? His land angle with a 4 has to be probably 35ish degrees which will never stop. For reverence I have about 108 mph with driver but my longest iron is a 5 just to manage land angle (especially on not perfect hits), I then go 5 hyb, 7 wood, 4 wood, driver.

Just watched Rory duff his pitch on the first …. the quickest way for a 10 index to improve their handicap is spend a lot of time working on short game and putting!

Current handicap of 13. I have been as low as 10. Of course as most I’d love to consider myself a better golfer, but way too many years self taught bad habits are so hard to break. Your content as well as Matt’s have helped. My coach is making headway also.
I reckon if I can hover around 10-11 mark would be fair.
I know you bang on about it, keeping stats help see where the leaks are. My coach loves where she can see the last 5 years worth of data from all the rounds, the good, the bad and the ugly.

I was around a 26 at the start of the season and I was aiming to get to 18. I'm down to 20 but with the dark nights rolling in I feel like I've ran out of time. Midweek rounds are coming to an end for me next week. My main weakness is my longer clubs 5iron, hybrid, woods etc. losing shots tee to green mostly.

Currently off 5.6 Goal is to get first number 4 by the end of the year. Just want to keep improving every year. Biggest issue this season is start line. Lots of confidence inside of 50 yards, just need more GIRs/FIRs

I'm a 9.6 index, but I should be much lower. I hit it long etc, short game is pants though. However its recently been improving with practice. The problem i have isn't with decisions etc that scratch players make, I just occasionally hit really wild shots that goes OB etc. Its not from trying something crazy, its just really poor execution.

Loved seeing a course vlog again! More of this please 🙏 Also, to answer your question Mark: I'm currently on 11.7 and aiming for 9 by Christmas. Driving distance and short game inside 25m are current work-ons (Arccos data has helped heaps here). We're coming into Summer here in NZ, which will help on the distance front… Just the chipping that needs work.

Currently 29 and have a goal to drop 2-3 shots by end of year. It will require something more than monthly golf. Long term goal is to get to 19 by late 2026.

Why does Rory have a 2 iron in the bag if he doesn't want to hit it when it's the right club for the shot?

  34. @maamold

Sooooo when are you going to fix Ray's tendency to try and lag with his wrists on his downswing and pull the handle into the ball, plenty of his "fore-right" shots are caused by that just as much as his aiming right.

Dont have a proper handicap – just the one toptracer 30 has given me which it calls 21.3 and I thiught it was a bit mean. Well I just shot 20 over on the front 9… nerves are now wracked for the next 2 months

15.2 at the moment. Was 11.7 early in the year. Aim was to get to single digits but has been very backwards progression the past 6 months. Went from 20 rounds in a row in the 80s to the past 15 in a row being 90s.
