Pretty sure that Fleetwood's dream first win would have been the Open, especially on one of the courses near Liverpool. But I'm sure that he would take any win and this one was a step up from a regular Tour event.

I think Brian Harman comes out of the top 12 and Cam Young goes in. The rest in the top 12 stay.

@ryanlavner You're definitely on to something about putting East Lake in the regular season. I'd say before or after the Masters. Doesn't have to be an sig event, since I'm hoping those go away. I think 3 things need to happen. #1… consistency in golf is one of the ways we honor the all time greats of the game. So there needs to be 2 champions, a regular season champ to honor the excellence it takes to do that, and a playoff winner. #2… Out of 3 stops in the playoffs, the first stop has to be in Memphis for obvious reasons. For stops 2 & 3, these venues need to be worthy of hosting a Major, and there are several in the country that can host. The PGA tour does not own any of the 4 majors, so these events "should" be the PGA tour's major(s). #3… I'm okay with the 70, 50, 30 man fields in the 3 tournaments. What should change is the events would be cumulative stroke play. So after event #1, the bottom 20 would get cut, regardless of where they finished in the regular season. Once event #2 is finished, the bottom 20 in cumulative strokes is cut. And the players start the final event with their cumulative score. That would make the winner of event #3 the playoff champion. This person would have the lowest score over 12 rounds of golf. It's not perfect but it would accomplish several goals the tour is after.

The original Tour Championship structure was as a season-ending cash rodeo for the top 30 money winners. (BTW, the first one was at Pebble Beach.) Beyond that, there were no grand implications. That was the most honest version and is really what it remained after the "playoffs" started.

Oh, and Tiger won at Eastlake in 2018. 2019 was the year he won the Masters, which was also a hell of a story.

I 'm sure Bradley felt jobbed by not being picked in 2023. (He was.) But instead of trying to make that up by picking himself, I think he will not want to job someone else.

    1) If Keegan Bradley thought he was good enough to play in the Ryder cup, he should have turned down the captain position when it was offered to him. 2) If Patrick Cantlay had won today, then it would prove that the fed ex cup is a complete farce. Thankfully Tommy won.

this Fedex Cup format was a cop out. the annals of the 2025 PGA tour Fedex Championship will record Rory McIlroy finishing in T23rd place. not exactly fitting if you ask me.

New guy Typical tour leadership where naming a list of 3 things gets a bit complicated. What was not complicated was the tour championship this year. I hope we can appreciate that.

This win does not make Tommy the player of the year—that award will voted on by the players— it simply makes him the tour champion; which to be clear is a season long competition to qualify into that 30 man championship.

It would make sense to end the regular season at Memphis w the fed ex cup; give Scottie his 15-20 million and start the playoffs.

Also this is —the end of the regular season —where the top 5o and top 30 perks for the following season should be decided. Maybe another top 50 and 30 can be decided during the playoffs for the following year as well. But guys should not lose their spot in the playoffs.

I’m really having a problem w quadruple points in 1 or two random events deciding the top 5o for the following year.

    Anyhow.

After the regular season start the TRUE playoffs (with or without byes) ending the playoffs w Coca Cola and southern company at east lake. Of course fed ex could be involved. I’m ok w east lake. Lav is being rude. And waaaaay out there. 25 min for that Lav ?

I’m totally ok with top 30 for the cup also.

Yes there are other options but as Rex said we live in the world we live in. The sponsors like this 30 man field. It does have some history now — albeit a long weird history— but a history nonetheless.

Now just because we waited 2 decades for a reasonable solution does not mean it has to be complicated. Often the best solutions are the simplest and make no mistake this is the simplest. As much as I love match play that is not the simplest solution in this world we live in; shout out Rex again.

As Lerner and chamblee always say the point of all this is to keep the players playing all the way to the tour championship because it was being neglected by the top players. 10$ million dollars (or more) has proven to motivate everyone to try to qualify for the tour championship; so that’s been a success.

The problem has been the format. But this year for the finale was absolutely fine.

That said the earlier rounds of the playoffs still need work. Certainly before any more changes to the finale.

    ———-

As far as the Ryder cup I’m convinced if Keegan and young don’t play and they lose it’s because one or both of those two did not play.

    GO 🇺🇸!
    I still can’t believe 750$
My kid in college steins there I saw us going… anyhow
If the cap is still giving tix call up the Danes.

So glad to see Tommy get the big win. Slowest preswing footstomper golfer in the world Cantalay melted down in oh so great fashion. Karma definitely rose up and made things right. And SO glad to see Rory McAttitude flame out to a non story. And of course you guys can’t mention that Scotty Shuffler (worst footwork in the history of golf that makes Ben Hogan roll over in his grave) completely displayed his worst footwork on the biggest stage of the golf world. Did you guys not see it??? So many did on twitter, but the golf channel (and espn, nbc, msnbc) of course is afraid to mention anything negative about his lousy footwork that every golf instructor in the world is absolutely embarrassed by. As for big moments, I could care less that Rory McAttitude finally won the masters after choking for the last 15 years. Hopefully him and diaper changing loving shuffler will be a non factor next season.

I agree that the Tour Championship should be moved. And I would take it a step further. The playoffs should be moved to September. Keep the St. Jude in Memphis (as long as FedEx is such an important sponsor of the tour) but move it to Labor Day weekend. The BMW could be held at several courses on a rotating basis. And I would propose Oakmont for the Tour Championship.
